Vice Admiral Kosmas Christidis a native of Larisa, Greece, was born in 1957, Dec 24. He graduated with honors and at the top of his class from the Hellenic Naval Academy and was commissioned as Ensign of the Hellenic Navy in July 1980. His sea duty assignments include various tours. As a junior officer he qualified as CIC Officer specialized in communication and electronic warfare (CEW). He served mainly on Destroyers and Frigates as CIC officer, Communication and EW officer. As senior officer he served as operational officer, weapons Officer and Executive Officer (XO) of two Frigates. As a captain he was Commander Sea Training to Flag Officer Sea Training. During this appointment he was responsible for the operational training and certification of Hellenic Navy ships. He Participated in Mediterranean deployment with the NAVCOFORMED, to the Persian Gulf in 1990 and 1991 as part of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, participated with the NATO Standing Naval Forces, in support of UN resolutions in the Balkans, conducting Operation SHARP GUARD and also conducting Active Endeavour Operation with the NATO Standing Naval Forces. His career has included command of Fast Patrol Boat HS KAVALOUDIS, Frigate HS PSARA, CO of Hellenic Frigates 1st Squadron, CO of Souda Naval Base, Command of the Hellenic Frigates, command of Support ships as well as broad experience in the Fleet and the NATO Alliance. His shore tours include appointment as Senior Staff Officer to the Hellenic Fleet, Armaments Directorate, as Director of Naval operational Resources and Plans (charged with the projects of the operational modernization of the “Standard” frigates and Fast Patrol Boats), Fleet Personnel Branch as head of the manpower section as well as Director of Personnel ad interim. He also appointed as National Deputy in NATO Seasparrow Project Office, leading the international group of ESSM Requirement Panel. Christidis awards and decorations include the Knight Gold Cross of the order of Honour, Knight Gold Cross of the order of Phoenix, Commanders Cross of the order of Phoenix, Navy Force Formation Command Medal, Navy Force Meritorious Command Medal, Staff Officer Service Commendation Medal, Commendation Medal for Participation in Peacekeeping Missions, Commendation Medal of King Fahd Saudi Arabia, Commendation Medal of Kuwait and the Legion of Merit (Degree of Officer) and the Article 5 NATO Medal. Christidis family live in Salamis Inland with his wife Sophia and they have two children. After much time away from home, he likes to spent time with his family, read naval history and occasionally go for scuba diving. |
