Admiral
General Manuel Rebollo García
was born
in Pilar de la Horadada (Alicante) in 1945.
He joined the Spanish Navy as a professional sailor at 17. He
subsequently entered the Naval Academy in 1969, becoming Lieutenant
Junior Grade on July 16th 1974.
As a naval officer he has served on board the following units: destroyer
Almirante Ferrándiz, minesweeper Guadalmedina, amphibious ship Galicia
and training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano. He has been Chief of Staff
of the 31st Frigate Squadron, Executive Officer of the patrol
boat Princesa and Executive Officer of the training ship Juan Sebastián
de Elcano.
He has
been Commanding Officer of the patrol boat Tabarca, transport ship
Contramaestre Casado, frigate Santa María –integrated into the NATO
Standing Naval Force in the Atlantic (STANAVFORLANT)– and training ship
Juan Sebastián de Elcano. Three out of six training cruises on board
this ship were around the world.
His shore
assignments include: Tactics lecturer at the Naval Academy; Naval Staff
(Communications Section); the Joint Military Staff; and a second tour of
duty at the Naval Staff as Chief of the Strategic Plans Section. He has
also been advisor to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence and
Chief of the Operations Division at the Spanish Naval Staff.
Between
October 2006 and July 2008, he served as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff.
Admiral General Rebollo García is a specialist in Communications and has
diplomas in Naval Warfare and Joint Staffs. He has been awarded the
following decorations: Great Cross of Naval Merit; Great Cross, Cross,
Badge and Commendation of the Royal and Military Order of San
Hermenegildo; six Naval Merit Crosses; Silver Cross of the Guardia
Civil; Commendation of the Agricultural Merit Order and the City of
Melilla Medal.
On July 18th 2008 he was promoted to Admiral and Admiral
General, and appointed Chief of the Spanish Naval Staff.
He is
married to Rosa and has three children: Teresa, Belén and Manuel.
